on theory of art - tourists in reality

This article refferes to early 20 ct. theory on art

The Work of Art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction

it is definitely politics influenced by left wing, but time when it was written makes it very interesting reading. today the politics/ state and proletarianism are over - taken by corporative world and market realiy we are in the the consumption era of everything.

this is the latest hype of the moment;
Curators Questioned over "Child Porn"; Porn in German Journals; Journal des Arts and ZKM Celebrate Milestones; Luxembourg's Cultural Capital; More Documenta Artists

Yves Michaud was right in his excellent essay on art "L'art a l'etat gazeux"..

advertise, provoke, make an event..

everything for the tourist society - someting i've thought for some time - that we are all tourists in reality.

park Dubrova Croatia

athlete on the run

Sculpture park Dubrova was founded in 1969 after the initiative of BA prof. J. Diminic, with
artists Quintina Bassanija and Milena Lah and the help of legendary researcher prof. B. Fucic, toghether with the support of the Chakawian convocation department of Labin republic.

Since then, the sculpture collection grew to an impressive number of over ninety, from American, European to Asian artists, who create them at the annual summer Mediterranean sculpture symposium. The work area covers cca 35ha of the open space and the stone is provided by a local quarry.

Besides the statues set in nature, there is the famous "White road" initiated in 1997; length of road is planned to 850 meters and so far there have been completed 14 "sections", each a length of 25 meters. Each "section" is created by different artist, and linked to another to constitute the road. Artist included: Dora Kovačević, Nikola Džaja, Ivan Briski, Quintino Bassani, Zdravko Milić, Peruško Bogdanić, Mojca Smerdu, Dušan Džamonja, Edo Murtić, Julije Knifer, Ivan Kožarić, Šime Perić, Ante Rašić, Eugen Kokot, Ivan Picelj.

ephemeral and land art

excellent article on ephemeral and earth art
quote;
"These artists are bound by a very loose set of principles: Their materials they use are natural and as such are subject to decay, and the artworks are to a large degree indivisible from the landscape upon which they are made. Earth art therefore eschews the gallery space, and generally relies on remote, unspoiled tracts of land that are challenging, if not impossible, for the arts patron to visit. "

All installation art share the idea that an artwork is not an object in the gallery but something that extends the given space; in the beginning transforming interior spaces and with land art, transforming open spaces. Ephemeral artworks are designed for spectator involvement.
Andy Goldsworthy combines the land art with ephemeral, making the open space a park gallery where the spectators become temporary and the objects of natural and found materials draw out the character of the environment, be it for good or until its natural decay.

Giorgina Choueiri’s potato piece

- transforming potatoes into people or people into potatoes?

The potato heads grow, sprout, and decay.

Very simple technique, exploring the idea of decaying. Multilevel work, crossover to animation.
